What can I say, It’s a Matchless and not just any Matchless. The captures in this preset aim to recreate the sound of one of the hallmark staples from Matchless Amps; the Chieftain. It is a 1996 model hand-built by the legend himself, Mark Sampson. As many of you may know, Mark Sampson was the original founder and designer behind Matchless and has gained worldwide popularity for the seemingly irreplicable tone that he instilled into every single one of his amps. Mark was known for being able to overpower his amplifiers in a way that allowed for them to have unrivaled clarity and definition as the amp moved up in gain. The Chieftain is Mark’s take on a classic EL34 sound perfect for deep resonating sparkly cleans. As the amp is pushed, you get a classic mild but harmonically rich overdrive reminiscent of very early Marshall’s, but this amp is no Marshall copy as it is a wonderful creation of its own.
One of the biggest opportunities that the Quad Cortex has is the FX. However, we have found the right combination of reverbs blended in stereo to give us the best ambient reverbs that the Quad Cortex can offer to date. This preset pack features cleans, multiple gain stages, multiple leads with delays set up pre and post-amp, and two different swells. Whether you are on EG1 or EG2, this preset will fit almost every situation.
Our Quad Cortex presets contain four captures from our partners at Alter Amp Works. In our opinion, they produce the best captures on the market. Each preset runs two different stereo amp captures and two different drive pedals. These captures are shared with you not only for this preset but in any preset you already have. In essence, every preset comes with a mini pack of captures!
